The American Dream is alive and well at Paragon in Albertville, AL. In 1970, a young couple named Wendell and Bonnie Glassco saw an opportunity in something very simple: making inexpensively priced homes beautiful. Today the company is among the largest wall decor manufacturers in the country, with corporate showrooms in Atlanta, High Point and Las Vegas and a sales rep network that extends from coast to coast.
Bonnie and the late Wendell Glassco began Carousel Decors, a company that provided decorative accessory packages to the manufactured housing industry. In 1975 they purchased a local competitor - Paragon – and the name stuck.
Eventually, Paragon’s need for affordable framed art in their accessory packages took the business in a new direction that would profoundly shape its future, when in 1979 the company began manufacturing its own framed prints.
Paragon soon discovered an untapped market in the home furnishings industry: a need for well designed pictures at affordable prices. In 1981, Paragon Picture Gallery, dedicated to the production of framed art, was born.
Around this time, the second generation joined the family business. Lendell Glassco today is President. Malanta Glassco-Knowles is currently Vice President of Design and Marketing. Vince Glassco is Propac Images President. By 1989, the company’s growth in the wall décor area made it time to close the decor kit business and focus solely on wall decor. The third generation has recently started in the company with Colby and Jordan Glassco working at Propac and Madison Knowles-Stewart designing for Paragon.
Starting in 1990, the company began manufacturing higher-end wall décor. Since that time Paragon has added new types of alternative wall décor including decorative mirrors, canvases, decorative plaques, oil paintings, wrought iron, and outdoor art.
The new millennium ushered in growth with the opening of new corporate showrooms in Las Vegas and High Point and a move into a new 166,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
In 2010 Paragon made ARTS history by becoming the first wall décor inductee into the ARTS Hall of Fame with their fifth ARTS win. Also that year Paragon acquired high end wall décor, lighting and accessory specialist, Kinder-Harris (now The Studio) to bring an added dimension of exclusive hand painted art to the line and to provide lamps and accessories in the market.
Paragon utilizes technology to keep strong relationships with customers and reps alike by offering both a website and app that provides account management, order history and order tracking easily at anytime..
With another ARTS Award win in 2017, and a nomination in 2019, Paragon continues as an industry leader, anchored by a business philosophy that has remained unchanged throughout the years. Paragon’s goal is to offer beautiful products at affordable prices, work hard to achieve operational excellence, and most of all - develop mutually beneficial relationships based on honesty with our employees, salespersons, customers, vendors and others with whom we associate.
Paragon continues to offer customers more than 2,000 SKUs of beautiful wall decor and lamps – all backed with the Paragon name.
